Apply for Capital – Frequently Asked Questions
Let’s get the obvious stuff out of the way.
If you’re serious about funding, read this. If you’re tire-kicking, this page will probably scare you off. That’s fine too.
What’s the difference between private money and hard money?
Hard money is usually asset-based, short-term, and priced like the lender expects a problem.
Private money is relationship-based.
Hard money lenders care mostly about the collateral.
Private lenders care about the deal and the operator.
I’m not a foreclosure factory. I’m not underwriting based on panic. I’m looking at the full picture, the upside, the risk, and whether I want to be in business with you.
If your deal only works because someone else is desperate, we’re probably not a fit.
Who do you lend to?
I lend to operators.
Not dreamers. Not spreadsheet warriors. Not people “testing the waters.”
I work with:
• Entrepreneurs with skin in the game
• Real estate operators with a clear value-add strategy
• Founders building something real
• Businesses positioned to create actual impact
You don’t need perfect credit. You do need competence, clarity, and accountability.
If your numbers are messy but honest, we can work with that.
If your numbers are polished but fictional, we’re done.
What are the terms of the loan?
Terms depend on the deal. Period.
There is no “standard rate sheet.” This isn’t a drive-through.
Loan structure is based on:
• Risk profile
• Collateral
• Time horizon
• Operator experience
• Exit strategy
Some deals are short term. Some are longer. Some are structured creatively.
If you want the cheapest capital in the country, go apply at a bank and wait six months.
If you want flexible capital that moves, we’ll talk.
How often do borrowers default?
Rarely.
Because I don’t fund weak operators.
Defaults usually happen when:
• The borrower overleverages
• The plan was fantasy
• The operator didn’t have reserves
• The lender didn’t ask hard questions
I ask hard questions up front so we don’t have hard conversations later.
Do I need a lawyer?
Yes.
You should always have legal counsel review loan documents. Always.
I don’t play games in paperwork, and I don’t hide terms. But you’re an adult. Protect yourself.
If someone tells you that you don’t need a lawyer, run.
How fast can I get funding?
If the deal is tight and the documentation is clean, funding can move fast.
Private lending moves significantly faster than traditional bank financing because:
• No credit committee circus
• No corporate red tape
• No multi-layer approval chains
That said, speed depends on how prepared you are.
If you send incomplete financials and ghost for three days at a time, we’re not moving fast.
What is the minimum loan size Crivello Capital will fund?
We are not a micro-loan shop.
Minimums depend on structure, but if you’re looking for a small personal loan, this isn’t the place.
This is growth capital. Expansion capital. Deal capital.
What is the maximum loan size Crivello Capital will fund?
There’s no artificial ceiling.
The maximum depends on:
• Deal strength
• Structure
• Risk allocation
• Whether the opportunity makes sense
If the deal is big, we structure accordingly.
Why choose a private lender instead of a bank?
Banks lend based on formulas.
Private lenders lend based on judgment.
Banks:
• Move slowly
• Care about checkboxes
• Say no to unconventional opportunity
Private capital:
• Moves faster
• Structures creatively
• Evaluates the operator, not just the ratio
If you fit neatly inside a bank’s model and have time to wait, go there.
If you don’t, that’s where I come in.
How many loans do you do at a time?
I don’t spray capital across dozens of random deals.
I’m selective.
That means:
• I know what I’m invested in
• I’m accessible
• I’m not overextended
• I don’t disappear when things get complicated
If you’re looking for anonymous capital that never asks questions, we’re not aligned.
Is private money more expensive than bank financing?
Usually, yes.
It’s also faster, more flexible, and less bureaucratic.
Cheap money is rarely fast.
Fast money is rarely cheap.
The real question is: what is speed and flexibility worth to you?
What do you look for in a borrower?
Three things:
-
Competence
-
Transparency
-
Personal risk
If you’re all in, I pay attention.
If you want me to carry the entire risk load while you float, that’s not happening.
What happens if the deal goes sideways?
We communicate.
We adjust if it makes sense.
We enforce terms if we have to.
Private lending isn’t emotional. It’s structured.
If you treat the capital seriously, I do too.

If this feels straightforward and fair, good.
If you’re looking for hand-holding, magic money, or blind trust, this isn’t your place.
